Ep. 68: Redefining Diabetes Treatment With Lifestyle With Dr. Cyrus Khambatta PhD.

In this episode, Bailey chats with Cyrus Khambatta, PhD who is the Co-founder of Masteringdiabetes. Masteringdiabetes is at the forefront of research into the revolutionary method to reversing insulin resistance in Type 1, Type 1.5, Type 2, Prediabetes, and gestational diabetes using a whole plant based diet approach. 

Cyrus shares some childhood stories of growing up an active healthy adolescent, eating mangos by the box, and playing every sport he could. With no clear signs of anything wrong, later on, in his late college years he noticed negative changes in his body. These changes became worse and worse until one day he went to the doctor and was diagnosed with three major autoimmune diseases. From that point on, his life became a battle for his health. 

As someone who was diagnosed with these auto immune diseases, he found after years of searching and researching, that a whole food plant based diet was able to help him control and minimize the harsh symptoms of diabetes even after a very short period. His journey into healing helped push his passion into why he was healing. This lead him into going to school at UC Berkley for Nutritional Bioscience to learn exactly how diabetes works on the body. 

This eventually lead him create the business of Mastering diabetes, which helps people by consoling with diabetes and leading people to health with a step by step approach of eating a whole plant based diet. He shares his knowledge of facts about diabetes, reducing insulin resistance, and many more eye opening facts about the connections between all these chronic diseases and our lifestyle. 

They go over the history and the current popular trends such as the Atkins diet. Paleo diet, Keto diet, and other low carb/high fat diets. Cyrus gives his expertise on the science of how these diets affect the body over the short term and also over the long term. He also goes over the  opposite side of the spectrum of a whole food plant based diets and other high carb, low fat diets. This includes the truths and myths about carbohydrates that many of us hear about everyday.
