Miso Ginger Summer Slushee Cocktail

If you were a 90’s kid like me, you know that we all loved going to 7/11 in the summer time and loading up on those giant slushee drinks. It was a sweet frozen treat that was loaded with sugars and dyes to make our heads spin. It may have not been the healthiest thing to sip on as a teen, but the feeling of having a cold drink in your hand in the summer sun was nostalgic. I wanted to make a recipe slushee that would embody that amazing feeling of walking around with a frozen drink in hand without a care in the world.

Not only is this drink nostalgic, but it’s a remedy for nausea, bloating, and is an aid for gut health and your immune system. Miso paste is a traditional thick paste produced by fermenting soybeans with salt and sometimes rice, barley, seaweed, or other ingredients. Miso’s rich probiotic content have been seen to boost your immune system, help ward off infections, and can promote gut health and digestion. Pair that with ginger which has many positive effects on helping your immune system and digestion, and you have yourself a perfect health promoting duo!

I love this recipe because you can make it for the whole family too. You can make the non alcoholic versions for the kids and non-drinkers, and then you can spike the other versions with your favorite spirit or even CBD/THC for a real party! This summer, save this recipe when you want to beat the heat and give your gut health a boost at the same time!

This slushee is:

  • perfect for hot summer days

  • refined sugar free and dairy free

  • simple and easy

  • low sugar

  • optional to make a mocktail

  • so delicious!

Save this recipe and don’t forget to tag me @chef_bai over on instagram when you make this yummy slushy!

Makes 2 mocktails:

The Goods:

  • 1 tbsp miso paste

  • 1/2 tsp shaved ginger

  • 1.5 oz agave

  • 2 oz lemon juice

  • 4.5 oz water (or non alcoholic tequila) (or real tequila)

  • 2 cups ice

  • orange zest garnish + dehydrated orange slice

The Method:

  1. Grab a high powered blender and add the miso paste, shaved ginger, agave, lemon juice, water or tequila or non alcoholic tequila, and blend on high for 30-45 seconds. Optional to use CBD/THC tincture with the water version for a greener side effect.

  2. Once everything is smooth, add your 2 cups ice, and blend again for 1 minute until you have a slushee consistency. If it’s too watery, just add another 3/4 cup of ice at a time until you have a slushee vibe.

  3. Grab two tall martini glasses, and pour the slushy from the blender into both glasses.

  4. Garnish both glasses with a generous amount of orange zest and a dehydrated orange slice. (Watch this YouTube video to see how you can make your own dehydrated fruit!)

  5. Enjoy immediately before it melts!
